I had a few specific criteria for this skirt. I wanted cotton or a lightweight silk, not wool or linen as that would limit the times I could wear it; a pencil or a-line shape and a true red color. J Crew is great at bold colors but I haven't found a true true red in their color options. Modern Red, Cerise, Poppy, even Maraschino Cherry - all of these are a shade of red but not the true red I have been looking for.
Now, for Spring/Summer 2012, enter "Chili". In the February 2012 catalog, we saw the Schoolboy Blazer in Herringbone in the Chili color. Well, in the March Catalog and in my local B&M this week arrived the Ultra Eyelet Pencil Skirt in Navy and Chili. Ladies, I have found a unicorn.
This skirt fits TTS as I am wearing a size 6. The length is just below the knee, which is perfect. And the color, well, it's the red I've been looking for. I so like the eyelet and will be able to wear it Spring/Summer and early Fall.
And here are some Polyvore options I already have in my closet.
Do you have a "unicorn" you are searching for?

Ooh, I love the eyelet! I have a kelly green eyelet pencil skirt I picked up at Talbots last summer that is one of my wardrobe staples in warmer weather. Great find!
ReplyDeleteLove this skirt! I can't justify it at full price, even though you're right, a red pencil skirt is a unicorn! Looks gorgeous on you. @Taylor -- I have the green Talbots skirt too and love it! :)
ReplyDeleteJust like you, a red pencil skirt. I can't wait to pick this beauty up next week. I am hoping for a double serge wool pencil in this color.
ReplyDeleteThis skirt is beautiful! Glad you found it!
ReplyDeleteAudrey, this skirt looks FABULOUS on you!
ReplyDeleteI picked it up too, on the last day of the 20% promotion (my SA honored in-store). Could not resist the red. The latest "modern red" and "flame" colors started me, also, on a search for a pure red skirt, which was surprisingly hard to find this last season, given all the reds around. So happy to find this. This skirt also seems shorter than typical JC pencil skirts, no? Usually I prefer the petites, which is kind of a pain b/c I have to order online w/o knowing the sizing, but this one was right above the knee for me (and I"m only 5'2") -- perfect!
It's a beautiful skirt and looks great on you. Congrats on finding your unicorn! I don't know that I have a unicorn, something to think about maybe but if I have to think then probably not.
ReplyDeleteI picked this up the other day, too, love! Did you notice the price discrepancy between online and in store? The tag in store stated $118, however it rang up $128. I pointed out the mistake and got the $10 adjustment. When it appeared online for $128 I realized why it rang as such in store. The pricing should be the same across the board, IMO.
